Born in Madrid, 1954.One of the leading contemporary Spanish artists, known with series of large scaled oil paintings on wax. Resides in Paris and Mallorca. Recent shows are held in Madrid, Paris and New York.
Born as a member of architect family, Sicilia first studied architecture to fulfill his father's hope. However he could not give up his passion for art, then chose to become an artist by entering Art University. As his talent flourished right away, his paintings received high recognition.
Since the beginning of 1980’, he had chances to have shows at top galleries in Paris（Galerie Crousel-Hussenot）, Köln (Galerie Rudolf Zwirner), New York (Blum Helman Gallery), and London (Michael Hue-Williams). Also invited to various group shows at museums and galleries, he has always been active internationally since his late 20s.
In 1986, Sicilia was invited to exhibit Venice Biennale to represent Spain. In late 1980’ Sicilia started to establish new method of expression in pursuit of his original theme “matiere of light”. In 1990, his new expression has completed with his original method using bee wax. His solid reputation is derived from major exhibitions held at the opening of "Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca" (1993) and also at "Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía" (1997).
Exhibitions are also held in Japan, at Tamada Projects in 1999, at Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum in 2008 and at Fukushima Prefecture Museum of Art in 2013.
